CLOVES

The main consumers of cloves in the world are the inhabitants of Indonesia, responsible for the consumption of more than 50% of the world production. The clove flower has been used as a spice since ancient times.

 

In Brazil, practically only Bahia produces this spice commercially in the Baixo Sul region.

According to Ceplacs Rural Extension Center, the planted area is estimated at around 8,000 hectares and a production of 4,000 tons per year. Cultivation is carried out by small and medium farmers and runs from September to February.
